The Project
A Runner's High follows Kallup McCoy, a Cherokee Native American endurance athlete who battled addiction, multiple suicide attempts, and jail time. Locked up for the final time, he met a pastor who changed how he saw his life, and that meeting pushed him to run the Trail of Tears in its entirety: 800 miles in 40 days, finding recovery and purpose along the way.
We found this story by accident, three years before we made the film, while looking for someone else to feature. The original pitch was an ultra runner and an endurance story. Once we got Kallup on the phone, it became clear the story went much deeper than the sport. Before we shot a frame, we spent time with the people around him: former coaches, the county sheriff, the Cherokee Chief, his family, to make sure every part of what sounded unbelievable actually held up. This one wasn't client work. It's a Dialed original, made because the story demanded to be told.
A Runner's High is a short documentary following Kallup McCoy, a Cherokee Native American endurance athlete, as he recalls the darkest period of his life and finds redemption through faith and 800 miles on the Trail of Tears.
